Converting any standard DIMM to version 4.02

There has been some discussion lately about possibly using a standard Naomi DIMM to load games using a CF kit.  The overall concensus of the arcade community has always been that a NetDIMM is REQUIRED to run a CF kit on the Naomi.  So we set out to find a way to use a standard DIMM for a CF kit.  As it turns out, the method had already been discovered by a man named TylerDurden67.  After doing some testing ourselves here is the result:

http://youtu.be/c7r_aDMf5P8

DIMM converted was Rev. 1.02 beforehand!!!

This is a huge discovery for the arcade community as we can now dust off those old DIMMs that have been lying around unused for years!!

He's also offering CF Kits at a very good price.

JVS I/ Helper by Mitsurugi-w

My friend Mitsurugi has made a PCB I/O Helper that will help you to use almost any JVS I/O with any platform. Here is a small description:

Hey guys.

I just want to see if anyone is interested in these if I have them produced. I designed this to solve a problem I was having. As everyone knows the days of dedicated pcbs for games is gone and game devs are using pc based hardware systems to release games on. They use a seperate I/O pcb to handle all the the inputs to control the games. I/O pcbs have been used for a long time but the interesting thing is that I/Os that were used by Sega during the Naomi era are still being used for newer systems such as Lindbergh.

Most people that have a Naomi use a Capcom I/O because it is easy and JAMMA standard compatible. But the fact is that using a Sega JVS I/O gives you a larger variety of game selection and newer game platforms will not allow the use of a Capcom I/O.

So my problem was this. I had to make hand-made adapters to play my Lindbergh games and pretty much any racing game. The actual AMP connectors used by Sega are very hard to find let alone the proper pins. My adapters were often very ugly and would break a lot and needed to be redone. I set out to make a cleaner solution to more easily play these games. This is what I came up with:

It has a DB25 and a DB15 port for two players. The DB25 ports use what I am calling the Walsdawg standard. (lol) It is a modified version of the system MAS Systems used back in the day for their Super NOVA Superguns. I used their button mapping but added more buttons, 5V, and analog controls to the DB25 connectors. I like using this standard because it is very flexible and allows for more than enough buttons to control any arcade game from a single connector. The DB15 ports will allow you to use a PC joystick with very minor modification to play flying or gun games. Here is the pinout diagram for the DB25 connections:

If you have other controllers that you want to use you can easily make an adapter for it to work with this pcb. DB25 accessories are easy to find and cheap. The cool thing about this is that it allows you to remap any button using wire jumpers so you could mount one of these in a racing cabinet and then you would have a huge variety of arcade systems and games you could play using a single I/O pcb!

This pcb also deals with a few issues that using a SEGA I/O requires a solution to:

---Power Loopback is automatically corrected. No need to splice any wires for inputs to work.

---Resistors are onboard to emulate the coin meters. Some games will not boot or coin up without coin meters present.

This will work with Revisions 1, 2, and 3 of the Sega JVS I/O to provide digital and analog inputs.

It can also be used in conjunction with the Capcom I/O for analog controls. Now you Capcom I/O peeps can easily play those racing games!

I made two videos. I split it because it was long. Part 1 is the introduction and how it works. Part 2 is the demonstration.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Basically I want to see if there is enough interest for me to do a production run. I made protos for myself and two friends. The production run would not be purple and price totally depends on how many I could produce. Please comment and let me know if you are interested. Also, I'm sure I left some details out as I typed this from work. Ask any questions you may have contact me at mitsurugi_w *at* hotmail.com

CPS2 Label Design by Alex

My Friend Alex made a design for the new CPS2 cartridge coming. It has the right size, in case you were wondering. How do you like it?

KOF XI, NGBC and Samurai Showdown VI converted!!!

Those games were converted several weeks ago. They however don't work on real hardware, just in Emulators.

As soon as they are fixed I'll post some videos so you can see it.

Quiz time!!!! What is this for?

Let's see if you guys can find out what is this design PCB for?

Notice the ribbon connector on the bottom left, that will connect to another small PCB.

Do you like the LCD? Better stick to the PCB or loos with a cable, so it can be installed in front of cabinet?

CPS3 IDE converter

I bought this SCSI to IDE converter so I could try it with my CPS3 Setup.

https://www.mediafire.com/?w13lol0jwo9845v

As you can see from the video below, it works pretty well. There seems to be some issues with synchronization as it outputs a timeout error, but wen tried again, it finds the CD.

Production status updated

After doing my best in order to get good quality flash chips. I could only secure enough for 50 units. That's half of the 100 carts. The rest I'm going to have to order from Greenliant directly. I will order also enough for CPS2 and Taito F3 project, so this will not happen again. I have received several quotes from questionable chinese suppliers and to be honest I don't want that after all the care and time spent put in this project, see everything go south for just installing some bad quality flashes and having people sending me back their cartrdges for repair and ending up thinking that this was a bad product. I want to provide you with quality from the beggining to the end. As I said before, this works with any STV motherboard or BIOS, I have checked loading times with many different type of flahes and microSD in order to provide the best result. If your cartridge goes broken for any reason send it back and if it's due to any production issues you'll get it fixed for free.

I will start production on monday for the first 50 units that will go to the first 50 people who ordered it. The rest will unfortunately need to wait until the freshly baked flashes arrive. For those who have to wait, I will include a Multi Region BIOS if they so wish completely free.

At least I feel reliefed because I feel confident that the feedback from those first 50 people who should receive the cartridge in 1-2 weeks will be excellent.

I'll keep you updated.

Final ISOS for CPS3 Released!!!

I have decided to release the final ISOS for CPS3 both for custom SH2 and standard SH2.

The filenames are the exact ones to play it on MAME.

If you got the CPU in your cartridge changed then you need the HD6417095 version. If you just got your cartridge BIOS changed, then you need the custom.

Enjoy!

Update on the cartridge

Paypal still is blocking my funds....sorry! your funds! so I couldn't buy any components yet. Feel free to write them and let them kindly know your opinion.

Besides that, there are a couple of improvements in the cartridge.

Latest features are:
* Plays wave before programming and after programming the flashes.
* Is prepared to support a new BIOS(not ready yet) that will tell you the percentage of Completion of memory flashing process.
* I have added support for all regions, so(theoretically) the cartridge will support all games with any BIOS.
* You can connect the output sounds of the cartridge (it plays a wave when starts programming  a game into the flash memories and another wave when it finishes) to the STV Main Board Audio Amplifier so you can hear all the sounds in your cabinet.

I'll keep you updated.

Status of the STV Project

There is a lot of improvement in the code of the microcontroller in the Multi STV cartridge. It currently takes a maximum of 2.5minutes to load the longest game. This will be reduced to about 30 seconds in a couple of days.

After that, the speaker will play the Wav file of our choice that is read from the micro SD Card.

Also I'm going to add the USB port, so that it will allow for updating the code of the ARM for future versions :))

It still only reads what is in folder \game, jumpers will be added very soon.

Hopefully next week, I'll post a vide showing how it loads and how to change game and after that I'll start taking payments.

Stay tuned!

The moment of truth

OK, so software part is almost ready. Still quite a lot of tests to go, but we are in the final round.

Everybody that is interested on getting one or more, please send me a PM in ArcadeOtaku, Neo-geo or Arcade museum forums. This will most probably be a one time batch. No more chances.

We need to reach at least 70-80 units to reach break even.

Look forward to hearing from you!

STV Prototypes almost ready!

As you can see, the board includes a speaker at SP-1/SP+1. The idea is that when a game loads, it will play some wave sounds, completely customizable as they will be read from the SD.

For example a nice "Oyuken!" when the load has finished or whatever you like.

See pictures below!

The microcontroller is an ARM. See here:

STV Prototypes ready to be assembled

The prototypes are ready to assemble and test! Then comes code for the microcontroller which is still quite in development.

How do you like it? Let me know.

More news coming soon.

Releasing Fist of the North Star!

Sorry for the luck of Updates. Real Life, work and ST-V are keeping me very busy.

I think I know how to solve the issue of black screen in some games and will get back very soon. Also I have almost ready conversion of driving games.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/wmhz00gxlh6m1zl/FOTNS_Naomi2_Fixed.7z

Enjoy!

Btw. I just got 3 new Taito F3 cartridges....I can't stop thinking how nice would be a Multi-Game cartridge for this system. Probably many things can be "recycled" from STV projects :)
