SFIII-3rd Strike ISOS for Battery Free cartridges

Do I need to elaborate more??

Go try it!

What you need to do is the following:

A) Download this:
https://mega.co.nz/#!EMlAESAY!L83jNWnisbEMXzNJzXpSt2LfELkw3hkMIVKcVMROfMk

B) Make a REWRITE ALL with CD number 2 (REWRITE CHARACTER probably also works and takes less time but is not confirmed) . When it's done it should start SF3-2nd Impact with corrupted graphics.

C) Remove the SIMM number 5 and put the one in SIMM6 in its place (both should be 128mb size).

D) REWRITE ALL with CD number 1. When it's done it should show SF3-3rd STRIKE with corrupted graphics.

E) Turn the CPS3 off, place on SIMM6 the SIMM that you removed after 1st update

F) Play!

Please comment how it works for you but I believe it's final.

I'm not sure if rewritting with any other game will also erase the content of SIMM6, but to avoid wasting time, remove SIMM6 during any update and put it only if you want to play SF3.3rd Strike.

Cheers.

  1. You've done great work. I assume that since this is for 2I carts that you could use working battery-powered 2I carts as well?

  2. Hey great work!

Before I get the chance to try this could you just confirm if it's the 990512 Third Strike version, and which region?

    Thanks!

    1. Looks like it's 990608. Sad urien is sad.

Region for me is Asian, which is the same as my 2i cart. It would be useful to override this as I don't have any of the voice sound effects.

  3. I'm currious as to the region as well (although I will know for sure in about an hour) :).

Are you still planning to release the tables for the version .4 of the tool so we can make whichever region we want?

    Thanks for the work!
    Brian.

  4. Thanks Darksoft, fantastic to see the third strike intro running again =]

It looks like when I play as Ken vs Hugo in arcade mode the game crashes. Or at least it goes to a black screen and only seems to respond to credit inputs. This has happened twice now so I imagine it wasn't a fluke.

    1. I can confirm the Ken vs Hugo behavior.
I have also found that pressing start for an additional player (when there are multiple credits) durring the character select will freese the game... music still plays and it responds to credit input still (plays the sound).

      Brian.

  5. Hi, please report more bugs.
The ISO will also work for battery installed SFIII-2nd cartridges.
I'll release the table as son as I get more bugs reports so you can change country code.

  6. I got the following feedback from one of the guys at the forum. I'm trying to fix this ASAP. Please notice that your feedback is apreciated and requested!

I tried the iso and its working great for the most part. I do get freezes though, but they are very specific in nature. First off, it seems as if you can't play against Hugo in 1-player, or versus mode. You can play as Hugo, just not against him. Another freeze happens at the character select screen - if player 2 joins at the select screen, the game freezes. Now, if player 1 gets to the part where you pick your opponent (directly after the character select screen) player 2 can join in. Player 2 can also join in while player 1 is in the middle of a match. The other freeze happened during Ryu's ending, but I tried joining in with player 2 in the middle of it, so maybe that' why...I'll have to test further.
I can confirm that rewriting the simms using Rewrite Character works for CD-2. I can also confirm that when switching back to New Generation for example, and then back to 3rd Strike, it works just fine without having to remove SIMM 6, so it looks like CPS-3 never erases SIMM 6. Btw, whats the reasoning behind the 1st update with CD-2? Is SIMM 5 the only one that gets rewritten? I ask only because when switching back to 3rd Strike I only needed CD-1. Anyway I hope some of this info helps. Really great work! Its nice to play 3rd Strike again - my last cart died a while ago. Thanks again. I'll be looking forward to the next game!

  8. Hey Dark, I've made a step by step video on how to do this. I made it as easy to understand as possible. If you wanna check it out here's a link;

I pointed people at the blog rather than directly to the download so hopefully it brings a few people here :)

  9. Looks like Joerg has some "Phoenix" carts up for sale on eBay: http://bit.ly/13QPzCt

It states "for all games", but I presume that whomever buys these will still have to wait for the ISOs to be released.

    1. yeah just saw this, its kind of a dick move if you ask me... the work isn't even done and already people are trying to profit

    2. Well...it'll be for all games....hopefully soon.

Maybe his statement is not properly paraphrased, but please notice that Joerg is a MAME and hacking Guru which has helped me a lot in this project...

  10. Sorry if i came off as blunt but i guess im more annoyed at the misleading description. the way its worded gives off more of a never dying cart instead of a " dead cart revived to 2nd strike " i work on ebay a lot so that kind of twist on words is frowned upon. is 100 bucks the going rate to basically revive a dead cart? because thats what he's offering more or less( not so much a reviving service but a revived cart)

    ReplyDelete

    1. It costs ¥7,500 to revive a cartridge by Capcom Japan. They only deal with authorized distributors, which also add their own fee (usually another ¥1,500). You need to ship your cartridge to the distributor (about $20), they need to ship the cartridge to Capcom Japan (another $10 or so), then they need to ship the cartridge back to you (another $20 or so).

ALL SAID AND DONE, its about $150 to revive a cartridge. Capcom Japan will ONLY service Japan region cartridge. What Joerg is offering ($99 for a pre-modified cartridge, not a service) is very, very reasonable.

Once Darksoft's mod is 100% working, I guarentee you won't be able to touch a "pheonix compatible" cartridge for $99 ever again.

Get your facts right before you act as an authority on the subject.

A simple "thanks Darksoft and Joerg" would have been much more appropriate...

    2. Dont even bother trying to fuel it lol lets all just be happy that third strike can live for ever!!! now once we get a bug free all the purist can be happy. on a side not i thought capcom doesn't even revive anymore so doesn't that mean Joerg is doing a bigger service by offering these, well not service but you know what i mean.

  11. Will this work without the CD drive if I use a dead cd 2I cartridge to load the data, and a dead no-cd 2I cartridge to play?

    1. I thought this only worked because the modded iso's trick the cart? do you have any way of testing that thought because that seems like a cool idea if it saves room in arcade cabs.

  13. It's great to see Darksoft doing big things this year. We thank you for all your hard work and dedication on this project. I'm very happy to have Third Strike finally running in my cab.

*I would like to add that when playing as Q in arcade mode against Dudley, the screen will turn black and the BGM will loop. The only viable option is to reset or power off the cab.

Great work though Darksoft keep it up!

    1. So are you saying that if you load the info on then pop in a no cd cart it will run it as if its the normal game? is there anyway to program no cd carts out of dead carts? because i think it would be useful to save space in my cabs.

    2. I reprogrammed the 29f400 flash rom with a modified SF3 Double Impact binary. After loading the data, I switched to the modified No-CD cartridge. It plays flawless (aside from already known bugs).

  15. I just had a freeze on Akuma (1P) vs Dudley (CPU). Dudley was just about to do his dashing straight and it froze.

  16. Nice work ! do you think we can use this breakthrough for making Homebrew on CPS 3 (always dreamed to work on this system) ?

  18. New SF3-3S ISO has fixed the latest errors, but I still want to double test it. The SF3-NG is ready about 90%.

They'll be ready when I can expend more than 3 consecutive days home :)

  19. Since you are still testing, I had a freeze BEFORE a Ryu(1p)/Hugo(cpu) match, A freeze DURING a Ryu(1p)/Ken(cpu) match and a Freeze during Akuma's ending just as the submarine appears on screen (screen freeze, music continued normally).

  20. Some more issues:
*I had an oro cpu try an ex fireball on me which froze the game. I reproduced this when playing as oro myself.
*While playing as ryu I had the game freeze after a cpu dudley did a crouching strong. Unable to reproduce with me playing.
*I had a necro cpu do what I think was a crouching strong after a tornado hook (not sure of strength) and then the game froze. I have been unable to reproduce with myself playing necro.

  21. Found some more oddness
*The Final Results page. The numbers look misaligned. Is this just for me? http://imgur.com/ohnrIog
*If you coin up once. Play enough in arcade to get a high score (one or two matches) and let the cpu beat you. Let the game over hit and wait until the score rankings page appears. Credit up and press start. Music continues but the game freezes.

    1. No, you're not the only one :) Mine is the same.

    2. I've seen the misaligned numbers issue with all versions of the tool from the beginning. Whatever is causing this problem was before the decryption to SFIII-2I. It was happening on my JoJo cart running SFIII-3S.

    1. Are these SuperBIOS carts or just battery-powered carts? If they are superbios carts you need to rewrite the game data using the superbios CD.

If they are battery-powered carts, you need to remove the cart pcb from the case and clean the contacts really well.

  24. I have 3 cartridges and 2 work, which comes out this announcement forgetfulness in pcb.tambien cartridge SF own a new generation, but apparently dead. and the 2 that work I get the notice install memory into the pcb. I think that the 2 cartridges 3rd strike if they are with good battery and does not need to change them yet. any help on that? clean the slots and memory

    ReplyDelete

    1. The dead one would be good to convert to the SuperBIOS. The other two carts still have good batteries so you should get the batteries changed. I can change them for you for $40 each.

As for the memory issue, I still think you need to clean the contacts of the cartridge really well. A dirty cart will cause this issue and can cause your cartridge to die.
