JOJOBA Revision A (Update 3)

I removed the summary table to avoid any misunderstandings. Now each game will have its own post with the latest version being updated there.

I fixed all the errors I could in JOJOBA. The problem with the fu'ed text is due to something very weird. At the begining of the game, when it should initialize the colour RAM, it takes the data to put on this ram from the cartridge! and the cartridge found is no more the Jojoba one. I guess I can make a patch, but let's have it working first.
Gameplay of Jojoba is REALLY Bizarre, we need the expert players here :)
This JOJOBA vesion was in demo mode for 48 hours without any problem.

Feedback please on JOJOBA!

  1. Thanks for the updates!

I am using the tables to creat ISOs that are region specific and I have noticed that the tables don't differenciate between REV A and REV B. If I try to convert a game using the "table-33s2.bin" the tools says it cannot find "table-33s.bin". I have renamed it and it works correctly. Now with the table for REV A in the directory it requires carful attention to be sure I don't use the wrong table for the conversion.

Are you planning to update the tool to not require renaming of the tables?

  2. Yes, I'm currently testing v1.0 of the tool. It also adds automatically the -DARKSOFT to the initial screen of the game :)

  3. So far for jojo it loads up good but there is pone error. the test menu and the start up text( that say type and usa laws) looks like this http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a543/mrpicklenickel/photo_zpsf7a01f0c.jpg
Now after the legal text are done the intro loads perfect and the game seems to work nicely.

ill test gameplay and play through and note back.

  4. Yes the Game ID screen and the warning screen is all f'ed up. Story mode is mostly broken. So far it completely resets the pcb to non-responsive black screen before Jotaro and Joseph's first matches. The CD drive will stop abruptly also if it is running at the time. And a few characters go into their first match but freeze afterwards.

I've played a little of challenge and advanced a few matches with no problems. Gonna try more later. I have a battery-powered pcb to test this against.

  5. I didn't see a problem before because i was 1 mainly messing around in challenged mode and 2 in story mode using a character who didn't have a any problems. Heres a list of nonworking and working:
Jotaro, Audol, and Joseph Will NOT get into the first match.
Kakyoin gets into the match but it instantly freezes ( he is fighting the faceless dude)
Chaca was able to complete the first match(both rounds) but then locked up before loading the second match.
Iggi, Manrania, Midler, Dio, Petshop, Black Polnareff, Hol Horse, Iced, D'Bo, Alessy, and Polnaress All got tested pastthe first match but i moved on after that to more characters. The second match loads so i thinks its fine from there but im assuming the freezes and lock ups are more the fault of the hidden characters not being played( like faceless guy) so if they are in a match up it will freeze.
Ill Test Challenge moe tomorrow, So far on that i was able to get pretty far with Hol Horse.

    1. As far as gameplay goes im not a guru so im not sure if anything is off on that end. Though i will note there are some slowdowns on specials if the opponent is jumping when they start( like hol Horses machine gun one)
On less thats Normal, Again im not a guru im new to the game.

  7. hey guys sorry I am really, really new to all of this but I am getting a SF3: 3rd strike cab tomorrow. I really would like to phoenix the battery before it dies. I don't know hardly anything about all this or if its even possible. Someone on another forum directed me to this site. Looks like you are doing a lot but I am not exactly sure what. Sorry for being a noob.

    1. Where are you? If you are in the states I can change the battery for you. If it is already dead I can convert it for you so you can use these isos from Darksoft.

  8. I'm in the US. I think a friend is going to do it for me as he has done it with some of his cps2 cabs. We are looking to see if the process is the same for a cps3 but its a lot harder to find information about cps3 online.

    1. It is very different. CPS2 carts have a delay in death once battery is removed( about an hours time) CPS3 WILL DIE INSTANTLY if the battery is removed. If you do not know what you are doing i don't think its worth trying to test skills on something new...and also a 3rd strike cart. Mitsurugi is VERY skilled at battery swaps/ conversions and in his hands its going to be as safe as possible but even for him there is a chances of failure ( thats just the nature of the CPS3) but he has a VERY high success rate.

    2. @Focusflute, Mrpicklenickel is right, better have it done by someone who knows what's doing. Anyway, I don't recommend to "phoenix" the cart, just replace the battery and you will have a working cartridge, which is something very good.

Most of the info about the cartridges can be found either in this blog or in the neogeo forums http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?226495-CPS3-suicide-free-a-step-closer.

Just working on Warzard A and B and JOJOBA B.

Please provide feedback on the 4 existing ISOS so we can move forward. The problems with the colour Ram will be fixed when we are sure the conversion is OK.

  9. hey guys thanks! I don't have the cab yet but it is going to be delivered soon. Unfortunately it has the 990608 board (the B board that most of the purists don't like). Is there anything I can do to make it the 990512 (the "A" board)????

    1. I'm pretty sure that you just need to make an update with a Revision A CD and that's all. The hardware for both revisions is the same. Just the software changes.

      Delete
    2. Where do i get a file to burn to a new cd of 990512? Is making an update as simple as just putting the 990512 cd in the cd tray? Sorry a real noob here.

  10. Darksoft, would it be at all possible to put some kind of identifying sequential version number and/or date next to each download link?

It used to be possible to tell this information from the UPDATE number on a post, but I see that revA should now be on UPDATE 2, but the blog post still reads (UPDATE 1).

Without this information it becomes quite difficult to keep track of whether one has the latest version of each table. Given that you are editing the body of the post, the date never updates on the post, which makes it hard to tell when a change was last made.

    1. I agree. It is difficult to keep track of all of the different versions.

    2. Jojoba is much better now. A few tips: since the screen is messed up in the manager's menu also, swap simms 1 and 2 before powering up with the new cd. This will force a rewrite.

Tip #2: Play the game with a Japanese cart for all of the violence. The game is great but the anime is VERY violent and the US version of the game is censored.

Hey Dark? How old is the newest NG ISO? I can't tell.

      Delete
    3. Can that be Japanese region on a different region cart? Or does it have to be a JPN cart?

      Delete
    4. Mitsurugi

The table for SFIII-NG was updated as of April 6th (the same for both versions 3S). The table for JoJoBA is updated as of April 10th.

Matt, you can force the region if you use the tool Darksoft created. Look in the previous posts to find a link and use the tables that come with these ISOs. Instructions are included with the tool.

    5. I have an Asian cart so I do usually change the region on the disks via Darksofts tools (Asian third strike has no voices and is less fun =[ ).

I would previously have assumed that changing the region to JPN would enable region specific features (like violence mode), but now I'm hearing about Jojoba loading color data from the cartridge, and this causing glitching on non Jojoba carts, I'm starting to question these things.

      Delete
    6. Nope, one thing is where in which part of memory the country code is taken from and another thing is that this game initializes colour ram in a different way.

Download the tool v0.4 and give as 3rd parameter the country code you want...it should work.

    7. Guys, sorry for confussion. I removed the summary thing and now each game has its proper post with the right UPDATE number, so we can all keep better track of it.

    8. I'm sorry for asking this but I am not sure where to turn. I have the CPS3 3rd strike 990608 and need the 900512. If I just swap the discs, will that make it into a 990512? Where do I get a 990512 disc?

I am very, very new at this a tech challenged and would greatly appreciate any help!

      Delete
    9. search for the disc on google or on the neo-geo.com forums.

To change the game, you need to
      A) Switch on the board
      B) press the TEST button
      C) select option 9, and then UPDATE ALL

When it finishes updating, the initial screen should say Street Fighter III - 3rd Strike (990512)

This is where the test button is:

  11. I've left this game running for the last couple of weeks and two secret characters have opened up : Shadow Dio and JoJo.

JoJo locks up at the start of Story Mode and I started a Story Mode game with Shadow Dio and it locked up durring the second fight.

There might be a way to unlock these guys without the 2 week wait. I'll check some faqs.

    1. Unlock Secret Characters-Operator Code

This code can only be entered by accessing the "Test Menu" on the cabinet, and cannot be done during actual play:
From Test Mode, go to "Configuration", then to "Game"
      - Input "Up, Down, Right, Left, Button 1, Button 2, Button 3, Button 4"
      - If you hear Dio's "Wryyyyyy", it was successful. Proceed to "Save and Exit", and the new playable characters will be available on the opposite sides of the character selection screen. They consist of:
Shadow Dio, Kan, New Kakyoin, Hol Horse with Voing, Robber Soul, and JoJo.

    2. Wow! Must give a try. Did you guys find something else wrong? Feedback Please!

    3. @Mitsu - you previously noted that the Manager's menu was messed up (gfx I presume) on jojoba. Is this no longer the case?

I've been holding out on testing the game based on that note of yours. Must be hard to get into the game configuration if the menus are broken.

      Delete
    4. It is still messed up. Dark will have to patch it before you can actually read it. I haven't put the code in for this reason. I did, however, enter the code in my battery-powered one that I bought 14 years ago and that still works!!
